Tom Brughmans

I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Computer and Information Science, University of Konstanz. I received my PhD in Archaeology from the University of Southampton (2014) for my work entitled ‘Evaluating network science in archaeology. A Roman archaeology perspective’; I also gained my MSc from Southampton, in ‘Archaeological Computing: Spatial Technologies’, where I was a member of the Archaeological Computing Research Group. I hold an MA and BA in Archaeology from the University of Leuven. Together with Anna Collar and Fiona Coward, I am a founding member of The Connected Past, a multi-disciplinary research group that aims to provide discussion platforms for the development of original and critical applications of network and complexity approaches to archaeology and history. I am secretary of the internationalComputer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology conference (CAA).

After the Second World War the Iron Curtain sliced through the very centre of Europe forming a very real divide in both political and daily lives. In the second half of the 20th century the Soviet regime introduced a new structure to the academic institutions to countries like Poland, Hungary and former Czechoslovakia, including restrictions on contacts with the Western world and ideological pressure previously unknown in these parts of Europe. 2012 Social Networks Data Reveals Decline of Many

Since 2008 ignitesocialmedia.com has been collecting stats on a very wide range of online social networks. Now for the fifth time they published their annual report, making available a wealth of valuable data. The 2012 report reveals that the Online Social Networks market seems to become increasingly saturated, with a few giants dominating the market whilst the vast majority sees a decrease in interest.
